Dear Sirs,
Works on the MUG Strategy for 2019-2025 have been completed. The document was approved by the Senate of the University at its meeting on 25 March 2019.
I would like to thank all of you for your work and effort in preparing the document, for your participation in consultation meetings and for your valuable voice in the discussion on the 2019-2025 University Strategy. I would also like to thank for all comments and suggestions submitted electronically, which allowed us to look at the issues raised from various perspectives.
Now, our community faces another challenge: the implementation of Strategy assumptions. I hope that the document will be a signpost of our joint activities and that the mission of “Modern education and research for health and development of medicine” will describe the essence of our everyday activities accurately.
Our main goal is to strengthen the position of the Medical University of Gdańsk as a research university based on values important to us, such as humanism, professionalism, proactivity, partnership and common good. Our ambition is to make MUG not only a recognisable medical university, but also an efficient organisation and a friendly place to learn and work for the entire academic community.
The MUG Strategy consists of five strategic objectives which will be implemented through actions described in the initiatives proposed by the teams. Every year, the Strategy will be reviewed and the list of initiatives will be supplemented. This way of implementing the Strategy will make it possible to react to new opportunities and challenges ahead of us. The Vice-Chancellor for Strategy and Development will submit a report on the implementation of the Strategy to the University Council and Senate. The University Council will give its opinion on the report, and the Senate will approve it.
The Strategy is a key document defining the long-term policy of the University in the basic areas of its activity. It responds to the challenges related to the higher education reform and shows priority lines of action for the coming years.
I encourage you to familiarise yourself with the concept of development of our University. I hope we will enjoy common successes in its implementation.
Professor Marcin Gruchała,
Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk
